sunny daze…

Wow, spring is finally here ! =) I was able to spend some wonderful hours yesterday afternoon on the patio; elbow-deep in fresh earth, surrounded by strawberry plants and ferns. I scrubbed the chairs, swept a season’s worth of cobwebs and rinsed down railings. I repotted plants, refreshed our fav fern and introduced a few new hanging plants to our little corner of the woods. The view of the trees out back is still sparse, but the branches are covered with reddish buds on every tip, so I am sure we will see green unfurling within a month.

I am heading over to The Professors digs later today, and hope the rains stays away long enough for me to get escorted to the pond by him and our foxling. It has been a peaceful morning thus far, and I have all the windows open, which is SUCH a treat after the abysmally long winter. I have had plenty of time to meditate, ponder and just fiddle around for a bit.

In my quest to create the life I am dreaming of, the next step is simply to THINK POSITIVE THOUGHTS. This is usually not too difficult for me, but can be very hard at times. My life has been turned upside down, and it takes time to process emotions as well as look past them to a future that is so unlike the one I had imagined. The beauty of this positive thinking is that it becomes a habit in time. The more you practice, the more automatic positive thinking becomes. Thoughts become actions, and actions become our lives.

My father-in-law ascribes to this way of thinking, and it has served him well. He came from his native Iran in his late teens, and spent some time in Canada. He came to the US and studied to become an engineer, but his heart was not in it, so he worked creating beautiful jewelry until he became a Master Jeweler. He has bought and sold homes, businesses and inventory of precious stones worth millions. He has traveled the globe in search of the finest jewels and has a wonderful business now, where he also spends time repairing watches, a favorite pastime of his. He is happy, care-free and always has a smile, for family and strangers alike. He lives in sunny California, enjoying an abundant life he created for himself. Sure, he has had his share of hard times, failed marriages and kids living far from him. But he has always believed that whatever he really wants to do is possible, and even probable, with enough effort. His attitude may seem unreal, childish even, until you get to know him… then you see that for all his faults, he is really on to something. =)

I know it is easy for me to type these words, as I sit in my comfortable home, bills paid by The Professor and hundreds of choices tossed out before me like a ticker-tape parade, just waiting for me to bend down and grab one. I will admit, it is easier to be positive when you feel empowered, when you do not have to work full time just to put food on the table. But I believe that we can all focus our energies on the good to come, no matter our current situation. By smiling at the start of each new day, I am reminded that simply taking a moment to be happy gives meaning to the day, no matter what I accomplish, or do not get to. And knowing I have some small power over my reality and emotions… that we ALL do; well that is cause for celebration in my book. =)
