I do not love chemistry. Why, then, am I spending hours a week, working thru The Professor’s college text, as well as auditing a class from Coursera on the subject ? While I am not back in college this year, I will be taking classes next year, and need to get the natural sciences under my belt. I need to get the highest GPA possible to transfer into the program of my choice, so I am preparing now. Since I am not employed, it is a good way to spend part of my weekends alone. I get so much work done in just a few hours without my darling girl here with me, it amazes me. I can work uninterrupted on my own schedule, and have been organized and motivated to re-familiarize myself with the concepts. This habit I am creating now will help ensure my success next year, when the grades do matter.

I have not been in a chemistry class in 24 years. Yep, you read that correctly, 24. That is a LONG time to have forgotten concepts that did not interest me the first time around. Sure, I did the work, crammed and made good grades on the exams. In class today, I was floored by how much information I had forgotten, or never knew in the first place. We had to take an entry exam, and I managed a 76. Deplorable, I know… but it does not count toward our grades. Apparently, I still am good at guessing when I have no clue…

So I have some major work to do. =) The fact is I couldn’t care less how many oxygen molecules are expended during methane conversion. But until recently, I hated math, and my feelings on that subject have completely changed. So there is still hope that something in the elements will get me excited.

I awoke today at 4:18, to sounds of the sidewalk plow, steadily zooping up and down our row in neat lines. The complex in which we live says they begin plowing at 7am on weekdays. The driveways perhaps… ah, truth in advertising strikes again ! I will say that having the steps and walkways cleared are worth it for me to lose a few minutes of sleep on snowy mornings. My poor foxling’s bedroom is directly above the entryway, so she bears the brunt of the noise. Luckily, she will pass out again almost immediately at that time of morning.

It is time to wake her, and get in some morning exercise before breakfast and lessons. She has her online latin class today, during which I will be trying to figure out the new laptop that arrived yesterday! The Professor is being his usual, generous self, and since this one is having such a hard time keeping up with our needs, he upgraded for us.

Have a great day, I am off to poke the bear… ! =)
