last weekend of September…

What a pretty weekend it was up here in New England ! The trees are beginning to undress for the season, changing their clothes and colors daily, almost too quickly to keep up with. Autumn is here is a force to be reckoned with, smoothly sunny days, crisp around the edges with ice blue skies and mounds of clouds balanced like meringue high in the sky. Nights tell of the story to come, bright-bean moon shines thru the fog, rolling in the cold and silencing all the tiny creatures cuddling under the fallen leaves.

The Professor and I drove out of state yesterday for lunch, ALONE, and we had such a nice time, talking about all those things you do not want to say in front of your now teenage daughter. =) We brought her home some goodies, of course. Hubby bought me a lovely card and a beautiful bamboo plant, which is perfect for this time of year, as it does not need much light and the living room is like a pit during the winter. Back in the den, the three of us watched The Avengers, in 3-D, which The Historian proclaimed to be the most exciting thing ever ! =)

Today has been busy, but very good, as well. My foxling and I went grocery shopping this morning, a chore I usually do alone. It was lovely to talk to her, browsing thru all the veggies and cards. We had a quiet talk, listened to good music, and enjoyed the sunshine. Home again, we put things away and grated up mounds of squashed and made delicious veggie cakes for the coming days.

Here is a little friend we came across a few days ago, bathing in the wan sunlight on the patio. He really was HUGE, and we watched him for a while, scittering around to face us without fear. Brave little fellow escaped from our inquisitive gazes, belaying down to the ground and heading for the hills.
